This wonderful village marks the end of the Sacred Valley before starting the humid valleys. It was built on Urubamba River; the urbanization plan and the edifices organization are directly from the Inca period: the foundations are intact and original from 500 years ago. This is the best preserved urban organization in all Peru. Its sinuous small paved streets open a range of houses (calle canchas) that are organized around small patios and a unique entrance with an Inca portal. In the inside court, the small pets (Guinea-pigs – cuys – chickens, etc.) are cheerfully frisking. The inhabitants’ life remains almost the same from the Inca period… Some nice treks are also to explore from a side and another of Urubamba River.
